New York World Festival - Sounds of the Mediterranean

The music of the Mediterranean and North Africa will be celebrated this special day of performance and education.

1:30 PM

Artist Encounter
A workshop lead by Hassan Hakmoun, Moroccan master singer and dancer Hassan Hakmoun, on Gnawa, a style of Moroccan devotional music used in all-night healing trance ceremonies.

2:15 PM

Artist Encounter
A workshop on Greek Dance providing an opportunity to learn popular dances from the Dodecanese Islands, such as Syrto, Ballos, Issios and Sousta.

3:00 PM

Hassan Hakmoun – ecstatic music & dance from Moroccan Gnawa trance ceremonies

Orchestre de Tanger - leading Moroccan ensemble specializing in Andalusian music

Amalia Papastefanou – the legendary Greek island singer with master clarinetist Lefteris Bournias

Chris Tiktapanides - Pontic Greek lyra player

Dimonis de Mallorca - from the Balearic Islands in Spain
